Essayist, critic, dramatist, poet, novelist, screenwriter, translator, and actor. Designer for theater companies of Charles Dullin and Georges Pitoeff, 1921-24; co-founder of the Theatre Alfred Jarry, Paris, France, 1926; actor in films, including Napoleon, 1927, and La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc, 1928. Lecturer on the theater at the Sorbonne, Paris, 1928, 1931, and 1933.
