because big things are oceans that haven’t been mapped as yet

let’s talk about small things then
the chandelier earrings i tried
at the store today
they were green
and gorgeous

they made me feel like someone
else for the ten seconds that i put them on

the plants haven’t been fed
or watered in how long

at least it rains outside, i tell myself
i hope they get moisture from air

in this room, two oriental chairs sit facing each other
there’s a low square table in between
i imagine two chinese men
smoking pipes and staring at
a chessboard

they sit and they smoke and they stare
i never see them make a move
but let’s not talk about that

ummm... back to small things
for example
the seaweed weave of a blanket
the whale song of a dishwasher

and this poem, a sort of raft
