Unto this Last

"UNTO this last" -- what is there in this WordShould so betray the grasping World and meThat any other meaning is prefer'dThan the plain truth, "This last as unto thee"?

From time unharness'd, and to service dead,And the day's labour ended, -- shall we thenFind our work judged by "time," and not as saidBy "quality," and twist His Word again?

Be honest then and quit the vulger crewThat envious think, "how much is done," the test,And not, "how well 'tis done," and try to do,As if "this last" were you, your simple best.
