City and Country

The City has dull eyes, The City's cheeks are pale; The City has black spit, The City's breath is stale.

The Country has red cheeks, The Country's eyes are bright; The Country has sweet breath, The Country's spit is white.

Dull eyes, breath stale; ink spit And cheeks like chalk--for thee;Eyes bright, red cheeks; sweet breath And spit like milk--for me.
