Extinction

Motion within motion,Deep movement in the darkest waters:It is the primal wit in the sea's heart,This creature that journeys out its yearsAnd propagates its simple appetitesAt the ocean's floor. The curve and swayOf flesh and bone and fin,Infinite recurrence,And the instinct of a million generationsSchooled in movement only:It cannot name its own passion for continuanceOr know some place as destinyWhere the wandering ends.

Greed is an evolutionary triumph,Spawning new evils in humankindThat were less than instinctIn lesser life.

The codfish,Who knows nothing but its way,Perishes in nets and mesh,Sunken mazes of unintelligible desire.
